Effective December 9 th, 2004, all charges against hypnotist Marshall Sylver were officially dismissed by order of Nevada District Court Judge Valerie Vega. In a legal battle that lasted over four years with false accusations made against Mr.

Sylver, the Attorney General of the State of Nevada officially withdrew any and all charges in their case of Taking money under false pretenses regarding Marshall Sylvers Millionaire Mentorship Program. In October of 2001, the Nevada Attorney Generals office issued a raid on the corporate property of Sylver Enterprises seizing computers, documents, and other related materials to the Millionaire Mentorship Program (MMP) as well as the corporate customer database and proprietary corporate information. For over one year, the seized property was held and used to build a case against Marshall Sylver on charges that he was misleading his customers in his program designed to teach people the skills and methods on how to become a millionaire. After searching through the thousands of attendees in the Sylver Enterprises database, nine people were found to have grievances against Sylver Enterprises, some had already been refunded while others were in the process of being refunded their investment for the MMP. It is these nine people who the Attorney General used to mount a case against Marshall Sylver. One such person involved and who was the primary instigator of the investigation for the Attorney General was a man by the name of Sean Roach. Roach opted to finance his investment for the MMP.

Having never actually made any payments toward the loan, he was seeking monetary refunding of his money for the program instead of the financing to be removed. In his attempted extortion of Sylver Enterprises, he began to distribute pre-filled out Attorney General complaint forms at Marshall Sylvers events. It is by these means the other eight complainants were found for use in the Attorney General case against Mr. A current case filing is pending against Mr. Roach for public physical threats made by him against Marshall Sylver in 2002. The nine complainants were used to represent nine separate felony charges made by the Attorney General of the state of Nevada.

Immediately after charges were made, the Attorney General offered a plea-bargain to drop the nine felonies down to nine misdemeanors and eventually down to one minor misdemeanor. Opting not to take this plea, Mr. Sylver pursued his innocence to a jury. In November of 2003, Marshall Sylver was tried with nine felony counts of Taking Money Under False Pretenses and during jury deliberation; the case was declared a mistrial by decision of the judge. Having seen the lack of merit of their case tried in court, the Nevada Attorney General decided to drop and dismiss all charges against on December 9th, 2005.

To those who are experiencing doubts about their faith after years of certainty, pastor and author Kathy Escobar always says, “You’re not crazy, and you’re not alone”. Kathy encounters many Christians across all denominations that are slowly distancing themselves or dramatically cutting off from organized religion. The reasons are many: lack of trust in church leadership or authority, a shift in theology, experiencing boredom when attending church, spiritual abuse, fear of being judged or ostracized for expressing doubts and concerns. In her book Faith Shift, Kathy provides a map for the painful, confusing, and scary process of spiritual shifting and transformation.

And rest assured, it’s not a covert tool aimed at getting you to ‘rededicate your life to Jesus.’ What it provides is an honest, hopeful framework for transformation and a path forward through your own spiritual shift when everything you once believed is coming apart”. Kathy hopes the reader will come away feeling less crazy, less alone, and more clear that these shifts are part of a healthy spiritual maturity and not rebellion. They will be affirmed and challenged to keep walking toward ongoing transformation, a renewed connection with God, and a freer, more active faith. With stories of women being abused all over the news these days, (Ghomeshi, Cosby, etc.) Elizabeth's own journey of emotional, physical and sexual abuse is one that is helping to create awareness for women everywhere. In Elizabeth’s book, If You Played in My Playground, she tells the story of a Portuguese woman navigating the ghetto of Toronto. She trudges through ill-gotten neighbourhoods, through welfare, through drug trafficking, through lost lovers and all forms of physical and sexual abuse.

With a strong will to survive. Elizabeth becomes as hardened as the ones who have wronged her, unable to clean the wounds she bore at such a tender age. She is unable to understand why the world has taken everything away from her including the one person who loved her - her Vuvo (Grandmother). Slowly, she finds love, incrementally, through the birth and rearing of her son Keeno and is saved by God in the eyes of the Church. Elizabeth’s story imprints itself on you with it's heartbreaking honesty and her remarkable ability to recall the details of her own coming of age. It's a story that needs to be told and a beacon for women everywhere.

Their daughter, Ariel, became HIV-positive through breast milk and died of AIDS in 1988. The couple's next child, Jake, contracted HIV in utero. Desperate to save their son and other children suffering from AIDS, the Glasers created the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation to spur research for children. Elizabeth died of AIDS in 1994. It took ten years of verbal and physical abuse and the death of her father in 2006 for her to leave Darren Lumar, a spiteful, abusive man who was a doting father but involved in sketchy business deals for most of his career. Yamma describes in excruciating detail the turning point of her marriage: the tumultuous fight that ended with both Yamma and Darren hospitalized two days after James Brown died of heart failure in 2006. Darren was murdered at his townhome in Atlanta two years later—his murder case is unsolved to this day.

Karima Bennoune is a professor of international law at the University of California–Davis School of Law. She grew up in Algeria and the United States and now lives in northern California. Her father, was an outspoken professor at the University of Algiers who faced death threats during the 1990s, but continued speaking out against fundamentalism and terrorism. In writing her book, Karima set out to meet people who are today doing what her father did back then, to try to garner for them greater international support than Algerian democrats received during the 1990s. In 1995, she served as a Center for Women’s Global Leadership delegate to the NGO Forum at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing where she provided legal advice to the Tribunal for Global Accountability for Violations of Women’s Human Rights. From 1995 until 1999 she was based in London as a legal adviser at Amnesty International.

Her publications have appeared in many leading academic journals and her article, “ Terror/Torture,” was designated one of the top 10 global security law review articles of 2008 by Oxford University Press. Is this lawsuit justified or does the officer have the right to free speech? • An Oregon couple that own a bakery, refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. They are now being sued for $150,000 for violating the couple's civil rights and will probably go bankrupt. The bakery owners claim that is was their civil rights that were infringed upon because they were just trying to live by their religious beliefs. Whose rights are more important? • A Trinity Western graduate is suing a company because during the process of not being hired by them, the owner proceeded to slam her for her Christian beliefs and the fact that she graduated from a place that forbids students to have sex outside of a heterosexual marriage. The owner wrote that not only was she not qualified but that ' unlike Trinity Western University, we embrace diversity, and the right of people to sleep with or marry whoever they want.'

In one of her replies, the student closed the email with “ God Bless.” The owner responded to this by saying that, “ God Bless is very offensive to me, and yet another sign of your attempts to impose your religious views on me. I do not want to be blessed by some guy who was conceived by a whore, outside of marriage, and whom has been the very reason for the most horrendous abuses and human rights violations in the history of the human race. Max Lucado cites in his new book Before Amen: The Power of A Simple Prayer that every week, more people will pray than will exercise, go to work, or have sex. But when it comes to praying, many don’t know where to begin. Before Amen, Max’s most personal and candid humble book to date, is written for everyone who wants to pray more, better and stronger, with more fire, faith and fervency. He admits to his own failures in this area, calling himself a “ recovering prayer wimp” and offering specific ways people can experience a heart connection with God through prayer.

“Prayer, for most of us, is not defined by a month-long retreat, or even an hour of meditation,” writes Lucado. “Prayer is conversation with God, between appointments, while walking the hallway to class, or interacting with a client.” Lucado believes that a vibrant prayer life does not mean your prayers are better or more eloquent than others. “ It was so overwhelming, that the lyrics immediately started flowing while I was heading home from church,” explains Crews. “ I felt like I was able to remove myself from the chaotic world around me, and see clearly that God has a plan for me and my future. Having that security and peace was something I wanted to share with the world!” Infused with musical influences from Sade to Adele to Norah Jones, “ Can I Stay” is a mixture of genres that will touch any listener. “ This music is lo-o-ong overdue,” laughs the former beauty queen. “I have been busy tending to my big family, my larger-than-life husband, and producing a hit reality show. On July 14, 2000 around 7pm MST, an F-3 tornado touched down at the Green Acres Campground at Pine Lake, Alberta. More than 100 people were injured & 12 people killed. Among them, 2-year old Lucas Holtom, who was literally pulled from his father's arms from the force of this deadly tornado. “It really just started like any other storm. You see the clouds coming over the lake. There’s almost a sense of excitement.

But then it quickly became something different. Hail the size of oranges began falling and soon afterward the winds began to pick up. Vans were shaking and trees were starting to get pulled out. We were like, ‘What is going on here?’ We just hurried to get into this bedroom in this tiny little cabin. We hadn’t gotten there for more than a few seconds down on the ground and, boom, it was just like an explosion. Everything was gone. Lucas was gone.” The irony - the Holtoms were visiting family and friends in Alberta after spending a week building homes for Habitat for Humanity.

For Jamie & Katrina, the death of their son has driven them to help others. Within a few years, the family put on the first ever Lucas Holtom Carnival day in Brampton, which now attracts over 5,000 people. “It’s been an awesome way to almost redeem a very horrible situation.” The Lucas Holtom Carnival - Saturday July 12th 11:00AM – 3:00PM in Leander Park, 363 Howden Blvd, Brampton. Nothing would have ever prepared Lenore for the worst half-hour of her life. She’d only been working at a local clothing shop a couple of weeks and this was her first shift by herself. Then, with only five minutes left in her shift, a man entered the store and proceeded to strangle her, kick her, and stab her 31 times.

Somehow, Lenore had the presence of mind to fake her own death just so the assailant would stop. The man eventually did stop, shut off the lights, locked the front door of the store and left out the back of the building. Laying there hearing the sound of blood leaving her body, Lenore knew that if she didn’t at least try to go for help that she would bleed to death. She would never see her three girls or husband again. So with everything she had, Lenore began to get up. However, the man who had so savagely and randomly attempted to murder her hadn’t actually left. He’d only gone into the washroom to clean the blood from his hands.

When he saw that Lenore was still alive, he came back to finish the job. Somehow – someway – eventually, Lenore found her way to the front door and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the shop, where she was able to get the attention of a man who called 911. She had only one unit of blood left in her and to this day is called “a walking miracle” by the local police. *Lenore and her husband shared their story with us a few years ago.

However, they just got some news about the man who did this and join us to bring us up to speed on one of the most inspirational journeys we've ever had on the show. By the time he’d reached his teen years, the music of the Beatles, Bach and Handel, Bob Dylan and choral singing were significant influences. Peter’s signature style includes thoughtful lyrics set to engaging arrangements shaped by his diverse melodic influences. ) This week on The Pub Crawl: 1. Only one question this week folks. To be more specific, why GO to church? If “ the church” is all believers, everywhere – then why do we have churches? If you mean sing together, that's lame. It might create a nice feeling for some, but for most, especially men, not so much! If you mean hang out with other Christians – why?

More to the point, why hang out in a large group sitting beside each other for an hour or so then superficially schmooze with a select few after the service is finished? It's impossible to have authentic relationships with a crowd, so wouldn't it be better to “fellowship” with a smaller group of other believers? Wouldn't it be better to “serve” within the community you live, along side other people who aren't from your church or who may not already be part of “the tribe”? In the age of information? Chances are that you'll find better communicators, wider perspectives, and less “ tribal conditioning” by learning from the teachers of THE Church rather than the teachers at your church! Bottom line – isn't doing church these days more for “ socially unaware” people who need a social construct to help them connect with other like minded people?

And for old people who like tradition? Wouldn't our money, our time and our talents be better spent elsewhere? • W.here's T.he F.aith? In 1969, Skip founded the rock group “ LIGHTHOUSE” (with long time friend and co-founder Paul Hoffert) who brought us ' Sunny Days' & ' One Fine Morning'. Since 1965 he has been composer of several film scores and popular advertising jingles. Over the past 25 years, Kev Morse has honed his talent as a Singer Songwriter, and Guitar Player in various bands, including being a co-founder of the Storytelling group, The Great Wooden Trio, who since it’s formation in 1998, are still a part of the Arts Scene around southern Ontario and the GTA. Through a variety of musical incarnations, much of his song writing was a collaborative effort. This experience came as he co-wrote material with his band Grey Town, eventually leading to third place honours in Q107′s Home Grown Contest, and a Video on Much Music, in the early 90′s. After recording his first ‘Live’ Solo CD in 2010, his desire to pursue a solo career was solidified. Kev, along with his band mates, Greg Woods (Drums) and Jeremy Giesbrecht (bass and keys) have just released their latest album called, “In The Blood”. Armed with new material, they hope to bring some new fans into the fold of their Power ”Roots” Trio.

With engineer Tim Alberts (True Music Studios) at the helm, this new CD also features a killer string section with Sharon Tiessen on Cello, and Sahra Featherstone on Violin. Teresa is a ' crooked' mystic, a trauma therapist, a mind/body/spirit yoga teacher, advocate for the underdog, hope conspirator, lover of pups, creativity-monger. She believes we can all find healing and help others heal by sharing the deepest parts of our souls & our selves. Her first book is Mending Broken: A Personal Journey Through the Stages of Trauma + Recovery.

She is currently working on her second book, which is a personal and professional exploration of spiritual wounding and 'church-hurt' titled The Journey of Desert Flowers. The actress who played Alice the housekeeper on “ The Brady Bunch,” Ann Branford Davis, passed away this week after falling at her San Antonio home. Ann had lived with Episcopal Bishop William C.

Frey and his wife for 38 years. Last Friday night, Ann had said goodnight to the couple before retiring for the evening.

Then while having breakfast Saturday morning, Ann's hairdresser called wondering if everything was alright because Ann had missed her regular Saturday morning appointment. Bishop Frey and his wife knocked on Ann's bedroom door and when they got no response, went in and found her on the floor. She had fallen and hit her head in the bathroom. Ann suffered a subdural hematoma and eventually, the 88-year-old succumbed to her injuries. Bishop Frey joins us to remember Ann and share a little about her spiritual journey over the years. 'It is the ultimate task given to the musician, whether as singer or instrumentalist, to create a unique signature or fingerprint that is instantly recognizable as their own. What is surprising and delightful in Laila Biali is that both as vocalist and pianist she accomplishes this with equal aplomb.

John’s, Ottawa and Montreal. Kelly is unemployed and about to become homeless. (So she should get a job!) Although Kelly is able and willing to work, she's unable to do the physical labour that a lot of jobs require, and because of that - just can't land a job. (Can't she get disability?) She applied for disability - but was not approved. (So she's just lazy then?) She is very keen to work and has offered to volunteer at Kerr Street Ministries. She's even filled in when volunteers have been away.

(Surely she's eligible for assistance?) Kelly does get some assistance but her income is not enough to cover her rent. (Can't her family support her?) She has been depending on her brother to make up the difference, but he recently told her that he can no longer afford to pay the rent. (What about subsidized housing?) She has been on the subsidized housing waiting list for years but has been told it will be several more years before she gets a spot. The way to fast track the subsidized housing system is to go in a shelter, but she can't do that because she has a pet and pets are not allowed in shelters. (So get rid of the cat or ask her family to care for it?) She does not have an emotionally supportive family. Her mom was a Christian and continually told her and her gay brother they were going to hell because of their lifestyle.

The only thing in her life that has loved her unconditionally – is her cat. (So now what?). Sarah Burton tells the tales of life with beauty, strength and weariness, and her sound rocks and rolls with just the right amount of country and pop influence. Zach had tried to leave “ the most hated family in America” numerous times before, but a few months ago and one month before his grandfather & founder of passed away at the age of 84, Zach made the break. 'Someone once asked me recently, 'What do you believe in?' I believe in a trinity: -The Intrinsic Beauty of the Earth and All Living Things; Unrestrained Freedom to act on one's heartfelt impulses, not necessarily governed by all of society's expectations; and Discovering the Oft-Hidden Truth as I see it day by day. And without these three major tenets, I don't think I would ever have reached my unshakeable faith in the Power of Unconditional Love, which is in my humble opinion, the greatest gift that anyone has ever instilled in my heart, mind and spirit.

Finally, I believe in True Love, which to me, means being faithful to one spouse at a time, and doing everything I can to make sure that our marriage stays strong for all of our lives!
